Do you ever need to treat that four-legged friend to something more than store brought treats? Then here’s your chance! The seaweed in these is very good for your critters coats, especially if they have a skin condition. I made these for my boyfriends staffy who is a bit prone to getting lil’ harmless cysts (I also put some seaweed in his food from time to time) and his lil’ lumps n bumps have cleared up so he’s back to his beautiful self (see below recipe for his lovely face)
Ingredients:
3 tbsp ground flax
1 1/3 cup water (more if necessary)
1/4 cup dried ground seaweed (I got mine from hillside animal sactuary) can use seaweed flakes
2 cups wholemeal flour
2 cups plain white flour
1/2 rolled oats
1/3 cup whole flaxseeds (linseeds)
Optional extras:
2 tbsp Fresh parsley/ mint (both for fresh breath)
Method:
Preheat the oven to 180c/360f and line two cookie sheets. Whisk together the water, ground flax and seaweed, add in the flour and stir well until you have a really stiff dough, knead it for a few minutes to ensure everything is well mixed (you don’t need to flour the surface it shouldn’t stick). Roll it out to about 1/3 of an inch thick and using a small cookie cutter cut out as many pieces as you can, then transfer to a cookies sheet, space the so they are about 1 mm apart. Re roll the trimmings and continue to cut out shapes until all the dough has been used up. Bake for about 20-30 minutes until the biscuits are dry. Allow to cool fully before packing into an airtight container.
Great recipe, I love my dogs and I think it would be a great idea to give them such a wonderful treat. Thanks for the recipe. Cheers
I hope your pups like these as much as Edward did! 🙂
Excellent looking dog biscuits! He is cute & lovely cool looking dog!
Cutie cutie cute pie!! I can’t wait to make this for my pupperoni!
His face is the money maker, that’s for sure! I hope your pupperoni likes them!
So sweet! Our pup eats vegan dog food and has never been happier! These dog biscuits look fantastic! Just thought I might chime in, I read in my humane society pamphlet that dogs are allergic to members of the allium family, i.e. garlic and onion. Not sure what it does to them, but it’s on their list of things not to give dogs….
I heard about onion before but not garlic, thats for telling me I will remove it.
No worries 🙂 Edward is so juicy, I want to squish him!
Here’s a list for you:

pretty sure my pup’s eaten avocado before. Oops…
Thanks, I alway ember my nan feeing her dogs chocolate
she new it was bad for them but stil did it. I never knew about eggplant.
me neither, and our dog is always trying to nick our chocolate… He just wants whatever we’re having. He goes insane when I make seitan (of course I don’t give it to him because of the garlic).
Edwards insane about bell peppers, he can tell when your chopping them and comes running down the stairs crazy fast. I hope they are okay for dogs cause I always give him a lil’ bit (its the eyes, he makes me into do it)
It’s ALWAYS the eyes! 😉
Totally making these for my boy, Ike – who, BTW – looks a lot like Edward.
Long lost twins :’)
Haha – maybe so!
Cute doggie 🙂 I passed this recipe on to my mom and I plan on making these for her dog. I love your recipes!
I made these for my Foxy and she likes them! So does her friend, Wilson, who lives next door.
